CNC Sheet Metal Operator

SUMMARY

Programs, set-up and operator CNC Machining center (Press Brake and Punch Press), plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes drawings, specifications, and tooling to determine program input data such as hole sizes, tool sizes, reference points, and direction of machine punching paths.
  • Maintains programs and tooling sheets for each part manufactured.
  • Set-up, operate and maintain the following equipment: CNC Punch Press and CNC Press Brake.
  • Responsible for quality including first piece and in-process inspections.
  • Identify and understand tooling, fixtures, and fixture components.
  • Determine correct manufacturing processes and sequence of machining operations.
  • Observes trial run of CNC machine to verify program accuracy.
  • Select from a wide range of standard and indexible forming and punching tools.
  • Set-up and operate CNC Machinery.
  • Read and interpret conversational and ISO formatted programs.
  • Prove and edit CNC programs as necessary.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal such as stainless steel, CRS, or aluminum, or nonmetallic material such as plastics, Teflon or fiberglass, according to product specifications.
  • Lay out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates.
  • Operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses and forming rolls, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
  • Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form.
  • Trim, file, grind, de-burr, buff, and smooth surfaces.
  • Inspects own work by using all functional gages and precision measuring equipment.

Education and/or Experience:

High school education or equivalent; and/or three to five years related experience or training in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
