Electro/Mechanical Assembler (Intermediate)

SUMMARY
This job is for the purpose of assembling components to build the company's mechanical/electrical product line (can openers and knife sharpeners).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cross-train within home department and other comparable work centers.
- Position requires moderate initial training and some continued training required for position in work center to support all of the products.
- Must be able to calibrate and perform some basic troubleshooting of products and processes within the work center.
- Must be able to read blue prints and/or schematics or indicate ability to be trained to read blue prints and/or schematics.
- Must be able to use all basic measurement tools and equipment to support production operations within the work center or department.
- Must be adept in basic mechanical, pneumatics, electrical and/or electronics t support all products and processes within the department or work center.
- Must be able to perform repetitive manufacturing processes efficiently and effectively.
- Should have a basic understanding of LEAN Manufacturing or be willing to lean.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Overtime maybe required.
OTHER NECESSARY FUNCTIONS:
- Follows all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards, safety and stretching requirements directed by Edlund Company and the department.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to operate various machines.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to team and/or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School or equivalent required; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Safe work practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work with or be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, as well as risk of electrical shock.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in and environment with moderate loud noise level conditions.
