The Edlund Company is the only scale company that has designed and manufactured its scales exclusively for the Foodservice industry. We know the importance of maintaining accuracy to ensure profitability. That's why we manufacture our scales with stainless steel mechanisms, including the springs, not just the scale housing. After all, it's the mechanism that does the work! High heat, humidity and steam, sale air, airborne grease and other factors in a busy kitchen can quickly ruin your scale mechanism, which can cause inaccurate readings and lost profits for you.

With many different capacities and features to choose from, including NSF certification, Edlund has the right scale for you. Sure, they cost more, they should. If you don't have an Edlund scale you're probably losing money.

The following chart shows examples of protein costs broken down into common protein sizes and the loss factor that could result from using cheap, inaccurate scales. It is easy to see how quickly profits are lost, but more importantly, you can see how quickly an accurate, dependable scale pays for itself many times over.

If your protein (veal, cheese, pork, beef, fish, etc.) costs $2.00 per pound and your scale is off 1/4 ounce, you lose 3.1 cents every time you serve a portion. 30 portions per day = $.93 per day x 6 days per week = $5.58 x 52 weeks = $290.16 per year. A three year period would be $870.48.

If your protein costs $6.00 per pound and your scale is off 1/8 ounce, you lose 4.7 cents per portion served. 30 portions per day = $1.41 per day x 6 days per week = $8.46 per week x 52 weeks = $439.92 per year. A three year figure = $1,319.76.

If your protein cost is $10.00 per pound and your scale is off 3/4 ounce, you lose 47 cents per portion served. 30 portions per day = $14.10 per day x 6 days per week = $84.60 per week x 52 weeks = $4,399.20. Three years = $13.197.60.

If your protein cost is $18.00 per pound and your scale is off 1/2 oz. you lose 56.3 cents per portion served. 30 portions per day = $16.89 per day x 6 days per week = $101.34 per week x 52 weeks = $5,269.68. Three years = $15,809.04.

The one, two, four and eight ounce figures reflect a receiving loss if scales are not correct.
